Mediterranean Plectrum

Mediterranean Plectrum invites the audience on a musical journey across the Mediterranean and the Middle East, moving between cultures, landscapes, and sound worlds—from Spain, France, Italy, and Greece to Israel.

At the heart of the project is a rare instrumentation: mandolin and guitar paired with a string quartet. The meeting of bowed and plucked instruments creates unfamiliar colors and textures, blending Western chamber music with Mediterranean and Middle Eastern traditions.

The repertoire features music by Victor Kioulapides, Ittai Rosenbaum, Mario Castelnuovo-Tedesco, Isaac Albéniz, and Masud Jamil. The program culminates in a newly arranged Arabic work for full sextet—string quartet, guitar, and mandolin—featuring improvisation in Arabic maqam.
